Brookland librarian named Christie Award finalist

Chad Kroll, librarian at Brookland Middle School, was named one of the five finalist for the Christie Award for his work in Homebound Education. The Christie Award is awarded to a special education teacher, related service provider, or support service providers such as a school counselor, psychologist or social worker. Mr. Kroll was a finalist for Homebound Teacher of the year under the support service provider category. The nomination was in recognition for all the work he has done with HCPS students who are homebound and cannot attend school.
Mr. Kroll received recognition in honor of his nomination at a ceremony for all of the Christie Awards on May 10th.

School Library Month Celebration

School Library Month Celebration

April was School Library Month and on Wednesday April 26, librarians, assistants, and school administrators got together at Hermitage High School to celebrate. It was a time to enjoy each other’s company, good food, a panel of guest authors, and honor this year’s Ann M. Martin Scholarship winner.
The guest authors were Erica Orloff, Bill Pike, and Steven K. Smith.
This year’s Ann M. Martin Learning for Life School Librarian’s Scholarship winner was Raven Witherspoon, of J. R. Tucker High School.

Kaechele Elementary School, who was named the 2017 Virginia Association of School Librarians James Regional School Librarian of the Year last week at the region’s spring conference. Electricity Stations at Trevvett ES

Librarian Marsha Moseley collaborated with Mrs. Grossman’s 4th grade class in late February for a lesson on electricity. She set up electricity stations where students used an “energy stick” to learn about open and closed circuits, a static electricity generator and a variety of materials to learn about conductors, and littleBits to learn about series and parallel circuits.
